1904 Document Being Used in Michigan Dune Property Dispute

By August 1, 2018November 19th, 2019No Comments

A deed from April 27, 1904 is being used in a title action case against the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers by the North Shores of Saugatuck LLC. The developers of homes near Saugatuck Dunes State Park are arguing that they own property next to the Army Corps Kalamazoo River channel.

The deed from 1904 shows that a former property owner, Marguerite Cook, allowed the Corps to create the channel area and 45 feet inland from the retaining wall and it is now interfering with a development of the North Shores area.

North Shores of Saugatuck plans to develop 23 homes around a future marina basin, as well build other homes on the Lake Michigan shoreline and Kalamazoo River channel.
