Elegance exemplified.

If you’ve been around the water for any length of time, you know that some deck boats out there are a bit challenged in the looks department.

While their broad decks and high freeboard provide a ton of space inside, a deck boat’s design elements can also make building an elegant boat challenging. Four Winns took up that challenge and shattered it, with its new HD 270.

Elegant lines are responsible for the HD 270’s pleasing aesthetic, from the beautifully drawn reverse sheer to the dramatic wraparound windshield that blends neatly into the gunwales. Though the HD 270 has a high freeboard, lines that taper both fore and aft along Four Winns’ exclusive double-chine Stable-Vee hull cleverly subdue it.

The amount of room inside is astonishing, given the HD 270’s trailerable 8-foot, 5-inch beam. The layout Four Winns has tucked inside is quite clever. Back at the stern, an expansive swim platform with stowaway swim ladder will make getting in and out of the water easy.

Lounging is easy here, too, with an aft-facing, two-person bench at the transom. The cockpit has a large L-shaped lounge, while two reclining captain’s chairs sit behind the split console. An enclosed head is in the port console, while the helm is to starboard. Up forward is a huge U-shaped bow lounge with two forward-facing chaise lounges. A table can be inserted between for happy hour snacks or informal dining.

The HD 270’s power plant options are as versatile as its deck layout. You can have the HD 270 in either inboard or outboard flavors, with engines from Mercury, Yamaha, Evinrude, Volvo Penta or MerCruiser. You might be worried about an outboard hogging up all that aforementioned room on the swim platform. No worries there; the outboard well only takes up a little more than a foot of space.

If you’re going to use this boat for water sports, consider equipping it with a Volvo Penta engine and the company’s unique Forward Drive sterndrive, which safely tucks the Duoprops up under the stern and vents exhaust gases under the water — and out of your tubers, skiers and wakeboarders’ faces.

If you’re looking for a deck boat with a ton of good looks, luxury, performance and ingenuity, the Four Winns HD 270 should definitely be at the top of your list.
