Cruising the lakes in style.
by Capt. Tom Serio
What do you get when you take a U.K. boatbuilder, add in an Italian design firm and collaborate with a Dutch naval architectural firm?
You get the Fairline Targa 48 Gran Turismo (GT). Fairline is on a quest to build every model to the highest standards, including bringing that quality to Great Lakes cruisers.
For comfort, The Targa 48 GT has a midship, full-beam master stateroom with ensuite head, drawers and cabinets, dual end tables and side hull windows with opening ports for fresh air.
Forward in the peak is a double bed that splits apart, converting into twin V-berths. A third optional guest stateroom is available with either hi-low bunks or left as a sitting atrium salon with an L-settee and table. A crew cabin is also available.
The fun is on the main deck, from stem to stern. Forward on the bow is a large sunpad for lounging. On the aft deck is a U-shaped settee for dining.
Through the glass aft doors (the Targa 48 Open has no aft doors) the galley-up option keeps the chef and guests mingling together. Low-profile cabinets and appliances help maintain sightlines. A fridge/freezer, two burner flat cooktop, microwave oven and more allow for meals just like at home. To port is a U-shaped settee with a table.
Up front is a companion helm seat to port, great for sightseeing or assisting the captain with navigation duties when cruising. The starboard helm has dual seats and a full complement of gauges and monitors.
Above is an electric retractable sun roof with one touch operation. On pleasant days, an open roof, windows and aft door can invite nature into the open salon.
Spring Brook Marina is bringing the Fairline name back to the local market. Kyle Stenzel of Spring Brook says, “Fairline is constructing boats at a level that you just typically don’t see when compared to their competition.” Stenzel adds that the discerning buyer will appreciate the level of customization Fairline offers. Fairline recently delivered its 100th boat in just 16 months: A 48 GT, sold to Spring Brook Marina.
With twin Volvo Penta IPS drives (435- or 550-hp options) hitting 30-plus knots, a teak inlay swim platform (optional submersible style), an aft lazarette, LCD TVs and sleek styling, you’ll be cruising the lakes in style in the Fairline Targa 48 GT.
