The right formula for family fun.
by Capt. Tom Serio
Formula Boats knows a thing or two about boating, as evident by the 30 models they offer. And the Formula 290 Bowrider is right up there, delivering a boating experience focused on function and fun.
With a leather-wrapped helm console, the Liquid Black dash panel has sufficient room for the Raymarine hybrid touch chartplotter, SmartCraft VesselView monitor, analog gauges and compass. All switches and controls are in easy reach. The grabrail on the inside corner of the helm is great for added security.
Formula has figured out the seating formula with varying options. In the bow, there’s wrap-around seating, individual loungers, chairs, sunpad filler, etc. Drop in the Corian-surfaced round table for more possibilities.
The optional wet bar is a nice feature, complete with a large sink and faucet, counter space, glass/bottle holders and an under counter fridge. Prep a meal and serve your guests as they lounge on the L-shaped settee or aft sunpad with dual position backrests.
In the port helm console is a private head, with porcelain head, sink and faucet, Corian counter and wood grain flooring. A VacuFlush unit is available with macerator and holding system.
Want more? There’s a Clarion AM/FM/CD stereo with iPod/USP docking and six speakers, 19 polished drink holders, weather resistant cockpit seating, in-floor wakeboard/ski storage and more. Opt for the windlass, ski pylon, stainless arch, grill, extended water sport swim platform and other features to make the time on the 290 BR FX that much more enjoyable.
Engine choices include single or twin models from MerCruiser or Volvo. Specs show that when powered with dual MerCruiser 6.2L 300hp ECT Bravo III engines, cruise dials in around 36 mph (3,500 rpm), and wide-open tops at more than 55 mph (5,200 rpm).
According to Formula, “Every inch of the new 290 BR, designed by Formula’s exclusive designer, John Adams, is focused on action, fun and sun.”
By the looks of the layout, features, options and power choices, the 290 BR FX is pretty much on the mark; Formula knows something about boating.
