Hudson River Maritime Museum Debuts New Solar-Powered Boat

By August 8, 2019No Comments

Hudson River Maritime Museum’s new tour boat, recently named Solaris, is fully powered by solar panels that work even on cloudy days. The 44-foot tour vessel is the first of its kind that’s completely solar-powered and certified by the U.S. Coast Guard for passenger service. Built by the Hudson River Maritime Museum’s restoration crew under the direction of Jim Kricker, Solaris can travel up to 50 miles at night without the use of its solar panels.

The new tour boat will allow the museum to expand its popular Rondout Lighthouse Tours, as well as new history tours, trips to the Esopus Lighthouse, bird- watching trips, sunset cruises and field trips to its on- the-water programming. Solaris can accommodate up to 25 passengers, will be available for private charters and can be added on to any rental of the museum’s facilities.
