The 2019 Sturgeon Festival is this Weekend!

By May 23, 2019No Comments

Join the Friends of the St. Clair River for the Blue Water Sturgeon Festival June 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fort Gratiot Light Station Park in Port Huron! The event, in its sixth year, will feature rides on the Huron Lady Sturgeon Cruise, hands-on activities, a workshop and, of course, live sturgeon!

The fish species can grow to 150 pounds and 7 feet in length. And despite the fact that they can live to be over 100 years old, their population started to decline at the start of the 1900s. A recent push and an addition to the Threatened Species list in Michigan has resulted in a small comeback around the St. Clair River and other areas.
