These Sperry Shoes are Made from Recycled Plastic From the Sea

By March 7, 2019No Comments

The amount of plastic dumped into the ocean every minute equals about one garbage truck full. To combat this issue, Sperry has released the BIONIC Collection featuring shoes made from plastic taken from marine and coastal environments. Each pair is woven with plastic from, on average, five recycled water bottles.

“To combat the ocean plastics epidemic, we will build awareness, share sustainable solutions and engage our consumers and partners to create change together,” Sperry’s website states. “When you pick up a pair of Sperry BIONIC shoes, you help break the cycle of plastic pollution worldwide.”

To create the shoes for men and women, Sperry teamed up with the Waterkeeper Alliance, a nonprofit aiming to create drinkable, fishable, swimable water everywhere, and BIONIC, an engineering company focused on reducing ocean plastic pollution in marine environments.
