Are Goldfish Invading Lake Ontario?

By September 20, 2018No Comments

Scientists say 40 to 50 million goldfish are living in the waters of Lake Ontario. People dumping the fish into the lake’s waters is a large reason they have integrated themselves into the environment.

Efforts to keep the cousin of the goldfish, the Asian carp, out of the Great Lakes, is now in jeopardy. Scientist say that if you can no longer care for a fish, to not release it into the wild or find another home for it so the chance of the species disrupting the ecosystem diminish.
