National Museum of the Great Lakes Adds Tugboat

By September 20, 2018No Comments

The National Museum of the Great Lakes in Toledo has added a tugboat named Ohio, thanks to the Great Lakes Towing Co. The museum had the tugboat donated to them, allowing them to continue to tell the story of the economic and political history of the five Great Lakes.

The Ohio was built in 1903. The 106-foot-long boat was originally named the Laurence Turner in Milwaukee. In 1952 it was reassigned to break ice and salvage wreckage along the lakes. It won’t be available to view immediately, as its exterior is being restored. Once it is ready, it will be on display in front of the SS Col. James M. Schoonmaker in the Maumee River.
