Cruise Boat May Sail From Michigan City

By January 30, 2018No Comments

Michigan City is on track to gain a big attraction this summer, now that the Michigan City Port Authority board has voted to allow a tour boat to operate out of Washington Park Marina. According to the Northwest Indiana times, the approval could mean that a 70-foot, 15-seat ship could be cruising around the lake by Memorial Day.

“We’re looking at this to bring in tourism, to give people something else to do on the lakefront,” Michigan City Port Authority Harbormaster Tim Frame told the Times. “There will be wine and beer and dinner. He’ll start with dinner cruises and sightseeing and expand from there.”

The unidentified operator is currently looking for a vessel to sail on the lake. The ship is expected to set sail by Memorial Day and run through October 31, weather permitting. It would make trips seven days a week during the spring, summer and fall. The ship is likened to the cruise ships that currently operate out of Chicago’s Navy Pier.
