“The Great Lakes at Ten Miles an Hour”

By January 29, 2018No Comments

Thomas Shevory didn’t realize how much exploring he could do around the Great Lakes until he made a trip to Ulan Bator, Mongolia. After that, the professor of environmental politics at Ithaca College made it his mission to bike around each of the Great Lakes. His book, “The Great Lakes at Ten Miles an Hour,” details his trip and includes observations of local environmental and economic conditions. Shevory began his journey in 2011 in Sarnia, Ontario.

Total, Shevory took a number of two- to three-week trips over a three-year period to complete his goal. One of his observations detailed in the book is how integral the Great Lakes were to the development of the United States.
