Boaters who dream about making a big trip but worry about navigating busy waterways now have the opportunity to hone their navigation skills. The BoatU.S. Foundation and United States Power Squadrons are offering an online course on navigating using AIS technology.
The course, “AIS Electronics for Boaters – See and Be Seen on the Water,” provides boaters with a blend of practical knowledge and technical know-how, such as learning about different types of AIS and the jargon that goes with it. Boaters can take the online course at their own pace; the program will save where you left off and let you review previous information as well.
“The course is designed for boaters — not marine electronics technicians — and our online learning system makes it easy to learn at your own pace from the comfort of your own PC or tablet,” says BoatUS Foundation Director of Education Amanda Suttles Pérez in a press release. “It’s great for when schedules are tight.”
