The Antique Boat Museum (ABM) in Clayton, New York has received a $9,000 Preserve New York grant to support a project on the Thousand Islands. The ABM is working in partnership with the Thousands Islands grant project, a survey of historic properties in the region related to the Gilded Age.
The Thousand Islands project began in the 1970s to 80s with a photographic survey by Paul Malo, a historian, and Robert Charron, an architect. The duo donated the photographic collection to the ABM and will use it to aid the survey team in identifying properties to re-survey.
“Far too often does the history of the North County get overlooked,” says Courtney Doyle, a member of the survey project. “This support gives us an opportunity to not only research a significant historical period of the Thousand Islands but also helps set the stage for preserving that history for future generations and garnering interest in the history of the North County as a whole.”
The Preserve New York grant is sponsored by the Preservation League of New York State and New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA).
