Love Locks Come to Duluth

By July 19, 2017No Comments

A romantic tradition that started in Paris is sweeping the globe and has now come to Duluth, Minnesota, according to the Star Tribune. The paper says that locals and visitors have begun attaching “love locks” to wooden poles from an old pier down the Lakewalk in Canal Park along Lake Superior.

Although it’s unknown when the first lock appeared, a number have sprung up over the past few months. Much like the locks on the Pont des Arts in Paris, romantics have taken to decorating the Duluth padlocks with hearts, initials and other doodles before attaching them to the wooden poles.

This love locks trend has spread in recent years to cities around the world, including Seoul, Toronto, New York City and even Hastings, Minnesota. Officials in Duluth say they have no plans to take the locks down but will be keeping an eye out for safety or infrastructure issues.
