Hobie Introduces MirageDrive 180

By July 19, 2016No Comments

Thanks to Hobie’s new MirageDrive 180 model, kayakers have the option to boat just about anywhere, hands-free. The new forward-reverse propulsion system allows a paddler to move full power in just about any direction — forward, backward, to the side — by pulling one of two shift cables that pivot the MirageDrive 180’s fins up to 180 degrees.

For fishers and anglers who want to paddle through more shallow areas while holding their lines, both of the MirageDrive 180’s fins fold up flat agains the bottom of the boat. Paddlers can also “flutter” the fins to get through shallow water, weeds or tight spaces.

Improved construction means the high-strength nylon fins are also more durable, and at less than 8 pounds, the MirageDrive 180 is easy to install, clean and maintain. The 180 will be integrated into all 2017 Mirage kayaks, can be retrofitted for older models and will be available as a stand-alone accessory by mid-2017.

The MirageDrive 180 is going for $150 in single kayaks and $300 in tandems.
