This week is now officially “Michigan Boating Week,” after Michigan Governor Rick Snyder signed a resolution declaring it as such.
It only makes sense that Michigan has an entire week dedicated to boating, seeing as Michigan is the third largest boating market in the country and had a $7.4-billion-dollar tourism and fishing industry. Michigan is home to 11,037 inland lakes, 36,350 miles of rivers and streams, 1,300 public access sites, 1,064 marinas and 80 harbors.
“We’re flattered to have Gov. Snyder honor our state’s recreational boating industry,” says Michigan Boating Industries Association (MBIA) executive director Nicki Polan. “Boating is a recreational activity that people of any age and agility can enjoy with their family and friends. We hope this week encourages more to discover boating and the vast freshwater resources Michigan offers.”
Michigan Boating Week is a collaboration between MBIA, the Michigan State Waterways Commission and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
