By August 5, 2013No Comments

The world’s first solar-powered boat to circumnavigate the globe has just signed up for a new assignment: Scientific research vessel.

According to a recent report in The New York Times, Turanor PlanetSolar, a 100-foot, $17 million catamaran, will spend the summer cruising the Gulf Stream in order to study the role of atmospheric aerosols and phytoplankton in regulating climate.

The boat, which The Times reports started its journey in Miami in mid-June with a crew of five, will stop in Newfoundland and Iceland, eventually ending its voyage in Bergen, Norway sometime in August.
