Beneteau Gran Turismo 46

A grand oasis.

by Capt. Tom Serio

With a big dose of European flare and a lot of boat building history, Beneteau introduces the Gran Turismo 46.

The GT 46 is all about blending environments to create a relaxing oasis, from the sleek profile — complete with hullside windows and a completely open hardtop — to the openness of the salon, thanks to the single-pane windshield, electric glazed side windows and sunroof.

Aft glass doors open fully to extend the salon into the aft deck. Here, the aft settee transforms into an electrically actuated recliner, and the salon bench seats pivot to make this a sun lounge. Enjoy the bow sunpads that convert into chaise lounge seats. In the salon, there’s seating on both sides with a starboard L-settee flanking a teak folding table.

The 14- by 4-foot swim platform lowers to easily launch water toys and provides a “teak beach” when submerged. The platform can hold up to 770 pounds. A grill and a sink are housed in the transom.

If there’s a need for speed, consider the Volvo IPS600 engine package that produces 435 hp. Beneteau says with the “Air Step 2” stepped hull configuration, the GT 46 can achieve 1 nautical mile per gallon of fuel at 33.4 knots. Air Step 2 allows for faster acceleration, smoother turns and reduced fuel consumption.

Accommodations include either a two- or three- stateroom layout. Both configurations include a full beam master with side lounge seats for viewing and an ensuite head. A forward VIP has a center berth that easily splits into two single berths. Opt for a third stateroom to starboard with dual bunks, or keep this space for a U-shaped settee and a table. That may work well, as the galley is right across in the atrium. The interior design choices integrate elegant woodwork with modern accents of titanium, leather and lacquered finishes.

“Beneteau’s enormous purchasing power and economies of scale allow you to own this vessel for far less than what you will pay for other boats in her class,” says Craig Duchow of Centerpointe Yacht Services (centerpointeservice.com).
