Jeanneau’s outboard-powered coastal cruiser goes the extra mile.

by Craig Ritchie

Jeanneau raised a lot of eyebrows at the 2016 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show with its all-new NC 895 — a 29-foot, outboard-powered pocket cruiser that seems tailor-made for Great Lakes cruisers.

For starters, the massive picture windows in the NC 895 make it among the brightest and airiest cruisers in its class, with unobstructed 360-degree views from pretty much anywhere in the salon and cockpit. A pair of independently operated port and starboard sunroofs in the salon, along with the ability to open up the back of the boat, further contribute to this spacious feel. Even below in the owner’s suite and the spacious guest cabin, enormous windows continue to provide plenty of natural light. The master cabin is also equipped with a head, a shower and a sink.

Because it’s a Jeanneau, the NC 895 exhibits the benefits of the company’s years of experience producing exceptional coastal cruisers. A full-height sliding door along the starboard side of the wheelhouse makes docking a cinch, even when running solo. The coaming door located on the starboard side allows easy boarding amidships and creates an alternative to boarding via the rear swim platform. The wide, recessed main side deck and tall, sturdy railing allow comfortable and secure passage to the bow, where a large forward sunpad — which can be easily set up as a forward-facing bench seat — beckons.

The cockpit offers a modular seating design that allows owners to configure the NC 895 exactly as they need. The standard forward-facing bench seat across from the transom can either be pushed all the way back to increase cockpit space, or can be pushed forward to allow for open and unimpeded stern access for those who like to fish. An available L-shaped lounge, which continues up the port side, adds a pedestal-mount table and transforms this area into the perfect entertaining zone. The starboard-side transom door provides easy access to the rear swim platform. Equip the NC 895 with an optional generator and AC unit to extend your cruising experience.

Powered by a single 300-hp outboard or a pair of 200s, the NC 895 offers low maintenance and outstanding fuel economy, making the most of its twin 53-gallon fuel tanks for comfortable, long-range cruising.
