Chicago’s Newest Marina Will Be at Navy Pier

By January 15, 2020No Comments

Starting next year, transient boaters will be able to tie up on Navy Pier’s north side and enjoy the city’s popular destination. Navy Pier Marina — the first and only dedicated transient marina on Lake Michigan — will have space for boats up to 130 feet and provide a boater’s lounge, bike racks, grills, in-slip pump-out and concierge services.

“Navy Pier Marina will provide a much-needed service to the boating community in Chicago,” says Joe Caltabiano, longtime Chicago harbors boater and prominent Chicago businessman. “Short term docking and quick access to restaurants and the city are sorely lacking.”

Boaters can dock for a few hours or even a few days along 7,000 lineal feet of space. The floating-dock project is privately funded, but is being developed by Randy D. Podolsky, a developer and manager of NPM Venture LLC, and will be designed and engineered by Edgewater Resources.

“A marina at Navy Pier has been talked about casually for decades,” Podolsky says. “For over 35 years I have dreamed about being able to moor at Navy Pier for lunch, dinner or an overnight stay. My vision to make the conceived marina a dedicated transient marina, brings the desires of all boaters to fruition.”
