The votes for this year’s Best Harbor contest by US Harbors are in, and the winner is … Charlevoix, Michigan! This year, in addition to a Grand Winner the contest also recognized new Regional Winners. Regional Winners for 2021 are, for the Pacific: Depoe Bay, Oregon; Northeast: Padanaram, South Dartmouth, Massachusetts; Mid Atlantic: Oyster Bay, New York; Southeast: Hilton Head, South Carolina; and Gulf Coast: Englewood/Lemon Bay, Florida.
Over 2,500 people voted for their favorite harbor in this year’s contest from mid-April through May 31, and of US Harbors’ 1,400 documented harbors, 335 locations were voted for, with communities vying for a winning spot. Finalists were: Harbor Springs, Michigan; Beaver Island, Michigan; Onset Beach, Massachusetts; Red Brook Harbor, Massachusetts; and Princeton/Pillar Point Harbor, California.
Winners will receive a commemorative plaque to honor their achievement, with one of the winners receiving a free tide station supplied by Divirod. Finalists will receive a certificate of recognition. A special awards ceremony to recognize the winners will be held online on Tuesday, June 22 at 3 p.m. EST.
