After an impressive rebuild, the Eagle Tower at the top of Eagle Bluff in Door County, Wisconsin’s Peninsula State Park is now open to visitors. The third iteration of the tower, which was originally built in 1914, the building is entirely constructed of wood, with access via the 100 tower stairs or 850-foot accessible canopy walk, making it the only known fully accessible wood observation tower of its height in the country.

At 60 feet high, the top of the observation deck sits 253 feet above Green Bay, offering spectacular views of the park, surrounding islands and Michigan shoreline. The project cost $3.5 million, and funding was made possible by partnership with local state legislators, the DNR and the Friends of Peninsula State Park.

“The Eagle Tower is a celebration of community and making outdoor recreation opportunities available to anyone, regardless of your ability,” says Diane Brusoe, DNR deputy division administrator for the Fish, Wildlife and Parks Division.

“The feedback we’ve received is overwhelmingly positive,” adds Eric Hyde, DNR Peninsula State Park superintendent. “Visitors are enjoying the new tower, whether it’s been a decades-long tradition to visit or a brand-new experience. The Eagle Tower is back, and we couldn’t be prouder of how it’s turned out.”
