Garmin is making docking easier than ever with the introduction of the new Garmin Surround View Camera System. Taking video guidance for recreational boating to a new level, the system utilizes six through-hull mounted cameras to provide a live 360-degree view on all sides of the boat.

“Our innovative Surround View brings the comforts and conveniences our customers rely on in their vehicles to the helm of their yacht to help captains see as much of their environment as possible for easier maneuvering on the water,” says Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales. “Until now, no other marine camera technology has offered a true 360-degree bird’s-eye view, a vantage point that can help reduce the stress of docking and navigating marinas, narrow causeways and busy channels by giving captains a live look at their surroundings.”

The camera system maximizes visibility from the helm, and when engaged provides a full overhead stitched-together image, as well as views of one or two cameras simultaneously, and even zooms in on points of interest.

The system displays on compatible Garmin chartplotters or multifunction helm displays, and includes augmented reality features like a visual bumper and distance markers to increase situational awareness. Its first demonstration was offered at the 2021 Cannes Yachting Festival, and will also be featured at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, which runs October 27-31.
