A return to old form for the builder.

Formula is perhaps best known for building stylish, sturdy and above all fast express cruisers that are popular from Long Island, Bahamas, to Long Island, New York.

But what many Formula fans may not remember is that the builder once turned out many a center console, way back when Jimmy Carter was president and The Big Red Machine was a perennial mainstay in the World Series. And now Formula is taking a page from its history and joining the piping-hot center console market with this 387.
“It’s a new market we are going after,” says Scott Smith, marketing manager with Formula Boats. “We built some of these center consoles back in the 1970s, but now we are refocusing on them. We are building center consoles but with the Formula touch. That means great components, super engineering, superb tooling and everything else.”
Formula’s return to the world of center consoles is happening because the builder noticed market trends that showed longer cruises have gone a bit out of style, and customers want to be able to do shorter, easier trips with their boats. To that end, Formula introduced this new model at the Miami International Boat Show last February, and will debut it at this autumn’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The 387 will come in both a Fish and Sport edition. The Fish model is rod holder heavy, according to Smith, while the Sport version will have an entertainment-focused layout with more seating. Powered with twin 600-hp Mercury V12 Verados the boat should have a top end above 60 mph which will make for a short trip to wherever the owner chooses to go, whether it be out to the fishing grounds, or just to the nearest sandbar for some fun in the sun with the family.
