Register Now for the Spring Session of The Captain School at ABM

The Antique Boat Museum (ABM) in Clayton, New York, announced the 2023 spring session of The Captain School, where students can complete coursework necessary to secure a captain’s license and have materials to apply for their Merchant Marine Credential through the U.S. Coast Guard at the OUPV or Masters level up to 100GRT, with option to add a Towing Endorsement.

Captains Tom Tovato and Andrew Driver will instruct coursework in Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV), Masters Upgrade and Towing Endorsement during this session. Merchant Mariner credentials are required for anyone to legally carry passengers for hire, including for charters, tours, water transport, excursions and piloting instruction, as well as for many commercial operations.

Course Dates & Times:

OUPV – March 25-April 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (March 25-26, 29, April 1-2) and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. (March 27-28 & 30-31); Testing will take place April 3-4 starting at 9 a.m. with no time limit to complete the four exams in.

Masters Upgrade – April 6-8 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; exam time is built in to the course schedule.

Towing Endorsement – April 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; exam time is built in to the course schedule.
