Summit Motoryachts, a division of the Kadey-Krogen Group, now offers optional Volvo Penta IPS propulsion on its Summit 54 Motoryacht, delivering increased speed and performance. The first IPS version is currently under construction.

“When Summit was first conceived, there was always the intention of offering traditional shaft propulsion along with Volvo’s IPS drives,” says Fran Morey, production manager for The Kadey-Krogen Group. “With IPS-power, we’ll be able to offer a propulsion option for customers seeking a little more performance and efficiencies than a traditional shaft-powered vessel.”

This optional power package features twin 600-hp Volvo Penta IPS 8000s, delivering an estimated top speed in the upper 20-knot range, reports the company. The IPS-powered Summit 54 also features a Volvo Glass Cockpit with Garmin electronics, allowing for seamless integration with engine, drivetrain, and navigational system data, in addition to the Volvo interceptor trim-tab system.

“This boat was designed from the ground up to offer both traditional and IPS, so implementing the power package is a fairly seamless process,” Morey adds. “Working in conjunction with Volvo, our in-house design team, along with renowned naval architect Michael Peters, was able to accommodate the structural requirements of installing IPS with little to no effect on the vessel’s layout, hull, or fuel capacity.”
