The National Museum of the Great Lakes is kicking off the new year of its Great Lakes Book Club with a free virtual discussion of stories and fresh perspectives of the Great Lakes. The first meeting of the 2025 year will be Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at 12pm to discuss Trouble Island, and participants will be joined by author Sharon Short in a live zoom to answer any questions about the book.
“We are thrilled to host Sharon Short and explore her suspenseful tale, which captures both the history and intrigue of the Great Lakes during the Prohibition era,” says Ellen Kennedy, director of Museum Operations. “The Great Lakes Book Club is an excellent opportunity to dive deeper into literature that celebrates the richness of our region.”
Inspired by a real-life location and true events from the author’s family history, the book is a historical suspense set in the winter of 1932. Future reads from the book club include The Raging Erie by Mark S. Ferrara and The Salmon Capital of Michigan: The Rise and Fall of a Great Lakes Fishery by Carson Prichard.
