Volvo Penta’s new IPS Electric marine propulsion range is built on the proven Volvo Penta IPS platform and complements Volvo Penta’s hybrid electric solution introduced in 2024 by offering customers ‘fit-for-purpose’ options tailored to different operation needs. The new fully electric range features an electric motor directly coupled to the Volvo Penta IPS driveline, available in twin, triple or quadruple configurations.
“Our aim with this new range is to deliver a plug and play electric propulsion solution, keeping the uniqueness of our core competence, but also designed to scale together with 3rd party integrators,” explained Anna Müller, president of Volvo Penta.
Starting in Q4 of this year, Volvo Penta will roll out the IPS900E, with a goal of electrifying all five drivelines in the Volvo Penta IPS range. The complete electric range will ultimately include full helm-to-propeller functionality, and will include the Volvo Penta Electronic Vessel Control system.
