If I didn’t get my point across last week, I definitely will this week…Canada is outstandingly beautiful. Not only have we had the privilege of uncovering Ontario’s beauty, but we took an unusual side trip all the way over to British Columbia — the other side of the country! But first, let’s catch you up to speed on all we did before our departure.
Monday morning we began inching our way closer to Parry Sound which is where we’d leave the boat for the long weekend. With hundreds of anchorage options to still check out, we were in no rush to get to the marina until we absolutely needed to be there. It was a smart choice on our end.
We made the most of Monday and Tuesday evening with long sunset dinghy rides, and even found an island with (very) old diving boards built in. Due to their instability though, we opted for jumping directly from the rocks (another smart choice on our end). Watching Ripley leap from the rocks into the water over and over again will forever be engrained in my memory. There was once a worry Evan and I shared that Ripley might not adapt well to boat life, but it was very quickly squashed. In fact, she is completely thriving, and it makes my heart extremely happy knowing we’re providing her this fun-filled life.
On the other side of this fun-filled life is a logistical nightmare when life events come into play. Although we paused our original lifestyle to take on the Great Loop, our friends and family back home are still living their lives which meant a wedding for one of our great friends from Florida. The wedding was actually in Whistler, which funny enough meant a domestic flight for us Americans. A marina reservation, car rental, sitter for Ripley, hotel stay in Toronto, Uber to the airport and a five hour flight later…we made it to Vancouver!
From Vancouver we drove up to Whistler and were met with more Canadian beauty — but this time with mountains! It was a blast of a weekend reuniting with friends and celebrating love. We have been living the greatest adventure of our lives on the Great Loop, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention how good it felt to be back with our friends. It was a reminder of all we left behind to take on this journey, and that it doesn’t come without sacrifices.
The good news in returning back to the boat was that it truly felt like returning home. We’ve worked to make Northern Attitude our home over the last eight months and it definitely feels right being back. It helps being reunited with Ripley as well! We’re eager to continue on through Georgian Bay and continue adding memories to our Canadian memory book. Cheers to continuing the adventure.
