Marine Trades Institute Celebrates 20 Years with Fundraising Event

By August 18, 2025No Comments

The Marine Trades Institute will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a special “Crafted for a Cause” fundraising celebration on Friday, August 22 from 6-9pm. The event will benefit the school’s Student Enrichment Fund, supporting high-quality, hands-on education in the marine trades.

Founded in 2005, the school has grown to offer comprehensive year-long training programs, and has recently undergone an expansion of its campus and classes to help accommodate more students and offer additional education opportunities.

“Currently, we can accept 25-30 students per year, but once the Marine Technology facility is complete, we can increase to 50 students each year,” MTI President Nikki Storey explains. “As we celebrate our 20-year milestone, we are strategically investing in the future of the school and cementing ourselves as the leaders in training the next generation of boat builders and technicians.”

The event will feature dinner and drinks, live music, boat and vendor displays and a reverse raffle with 20 unique prizes, including a grand prize of $5,000. Crafted for a Cause is supported by a variety of sponsors, including Clark Construction and Rudy Sherlund Excavating, both partners in the Marine Technology School’s construction, Autore Excavating, Soo Motors, BreezeSwept Docks and the Make it Better Foundation. Taylor Lumber Company, a division of Tri County Building Centers, will serve as the event’s Admiral Level Sponsor.

“We are excited to partner with MTI on this important fundraising event and celebration of some of the great things happening in the community,” says Rachel Hanna-McDermott from Tri County Building Centers. “With the establishment of our new location in Cedarville and the new project underway at the school it is an opportune time to express our thanks and get involved.”
