As a captain, he has delivered boats to destinations encompassing the Great Lakes, St. Lawrence Seaway, Erie Barge Canal, Mississippi River, Atlantic Coast, Florida and the Caribbean down to and through the Panama Canal. An avid sailboat racer, David’s racing career includes over 25 Mackinac (Chicago/Port Huron) races as watch captain and class wins in the annual Queen’s Cup.
David’s professional career includes director of engineering standards at the National Marine Manufacturers Association. He has consulted with nearly 400 boat and engine manufacturers regarding all aspects of construction and safety standards implementation and development.
Over the last 25 years, David has served on numerous American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) Project Technical Committees, contributing to the ongoing development of safety standards for the marine industry. He has a passion for boating safety and holds patents for battery safety management equipment.
David currently owns a 1941 Chris-Craft Barrel Back runabout. It underwent a six-year complete restoration with the help of his father. David also owns a 25-foot Chris-Craft Launch that can be found at the Wilmette Harbor Club on Lake Michigan in the summer.
