Huron Harbor Pier Repair

The century-old Huron Harbor West Pier in Huron, Ohio, is undergoing a major $3.5 million overhaul by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Buffalo District to address significant structural deterioration and extend its lifespan. Originally constructed in 1901 and widened in 1906 to support growing maritime traffic, the pier has long exceeded its intended design life and developed serious issues, including timber crib decay below the waterline and concrete loss. Work began in August 2025, focusing first on the most deteriorated sections, and is expected to finish by fall 2026.

Although Huron’s harbor sees little commercial shipping today, it remains a popular destination for recreational boaters and community visitors. Officials say the repairs will protect safe navigation, shoreline integrity and public access for walking, fishing and enjoying views of the historic Huron Harbor Lighthouse.
