Michigan’s Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore beaches were recently named one of the top five in the world by TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards. It was the only U.S. location given the honor, recognized just behind beach locations in South Africa, Italy and the UK.
“We are pleased but not really surprised by this honor,” says Bob Kuras, CEO and owner of The Homestead, the only resort located in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. “The sandy beaches and Caribbean-blue waters of Lake Michigan are hallmarks of the area. Our own mile-long private beach is just one example of the clean, clear waters that attract visitors every year.”
TripAdvisor is one of the largest travel resources in the world, and its Travelers’ Choice Awards recognize places and destinations that receive a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews from the TripAdvisor community over a 12-month period. Under one percent out of 8 million listings achieve a mention in the awards. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore was the only Michigan location recognized on the listings, and received an overall rating of 4.8 from over 1,900 reviewers.
