After an extensive restoration project, a historic Lake Michigan lighthouse in Manistee, Michigan, is reopening to allow visitors to climb its tower.

The nonprofit Lakeshore Keepers (formerly known as Sable Point Lighthouse Keepers Association) led renovation efforts on the Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse, originally built in 1927, preparing it to welcome the public by Memorial Day 2026 with improved safety features, fresh paint, structural work, the addition of a small gift shop and a new historical timeline display.

Once reopened, visitors will be able to take guided tours, explore maritime history exhibits and enjoy expansive views from the tower overlooking Lake Michigan. Lakeshore Keepers has also incorporated new solar power and plans to install a live camera feed to broaden access to the experience.

The Manistee Chamber of Commerce is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the light to celebrate the milestone on May 25, 2026, and all are welcome to attend. Learn more at lakeshorekeepers.org.
