A new Canadian cruising organization has launched to promote the 3,000-kilometer (1,864-mile) “Great Canadian Loop” — a freshwater route linking the Great Lakes, inland rivers and historic canals from Montreal all the way to Sault St. Marie. The initiative aims to position the Great Canadian Loop as a premier boating adventure, highlighting Canada’s diverse waterways, communities and tourism opportunities.

Organizers of the Great Canadian Loop Association (GCLA) say the route offers a distinctly Canadian alternative to the popular America’s Great Loop, a trip an average trawler could complete in about 90 days, or a faster cruiser in roughly 50. The group will focus on awareness, resources and partnerships to support cruisers and waterfront destinations, while boosting regional economies and showcasing Canada’s rich boating heritage.
