Paul Hoppes, founder of Sailfish Boats, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Hoppes founded Sailfish in 1986, relying on his entrepreneurial spirit and larger than life presence to build a true legacy. Without any former marine experience, he built a fishing brand that stood for quality, value and fishability, using his passion, determination and hands-on approach to build a brand that has lasted for 40 years and continues to deliver exceptional boats.
Hoppes was actively involved in the day-to-day operations, building the company from the ground up through his retirement in 2020. His dedication and passion was reflected through numerous dealers, thousands of Sailfish owners and hundreds of employees whose lives he touched and influenced throughout his time.
Hoppes is survived by his wife, Collene, daughters April and Crystal, a son, Paul III and granddaughters Mirabella and Lola.
