The Inland Seas Education Association (ISEA) is offering a unique overnight STEM sailing program for high school girls interested in Great Lakes science and maritime careers. The three-day, two-night “Young Women in STEM” program gives participants hands-on experience aboard traditionally rigged schooners while studying Great Lakes ecology, water quality and invasive species.
Open to girls entering grades 9-12, the program combines sailing instruction with scientific research, allowing students to work alongside professional crew members and educators. Participants help raise sails, steer the vessel and collect research samples while exploring the waters from Sault Ste. Marie to Hessel, Michigan.
Spots are limited. Those interested can apply for session 2, which will take place on July 27 – 29. Learn more at schoolship.org.
