2025 U.S. Recreational Marine Spending Totals $54 Billion

U.S. recreational marine retail spending totaled $54 billion in 2025, according to NMMA’s latest 2025 U.S. Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract, with total marine retail expenditures including spending on new and pre-owned boats, outboard engines, trailers, aftermarket accessories, as well as boat use spending, including fuel, financing, insurance, docking and maintenance. New boats accounted for 20.3% of total boat unit sales, with outboard boats leading the new segment, followed by personal watercraft. 

The abstract provides key data on the recreational boating industry in the U.S., and offers a historical look at industry segments along with a detailed trends analysis that highlights the economic impact of recreational boating in the U.S.

The report also examines spending across major product categories and highlights regional trends throughout the U.S. market. Florida continued to lead the nation in recreational marine spending, while Texas, Michigan, North Carolina and New York ranked among the top five markets.
