The Spring session of the Antique Boat Museum’s Captain School will kick off March 16, 2024 with instructors Captain Tom Tovato and Captain Ken Kozin. The school offers the courses necessary to secure a captain’s license, with this session featuring the Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels, Masters Upgrade and Towing Endorsement courses.
Students can apply for their Merchant Mariner Credential through the U.S. Coast Guard at the OUPV or Masters level after completion of all coursework, with an option to add a Towing Endorsement. The Merchant Mariner Credential is required to legally carry passengers for hire, including for fishing charters, tour boats, diving excursions, water transportation of any kind, and all piloting instruction. Registration is currently open at abm.org, along with further information and links to register online, and the Coast Guard’s National Maritime Center MMC Application checklist.
