The Alliance for the Great Lakes, a charity advocating for the protection of the Great Lakes and surrounding environment, has announced a successful end to its Summer of Water campaign. Many of the Alliance’s efforts this summer involved volunteers from around the Great Lakes regions.

The Alliance for the Great Lakes has released a few numbers illustrating its success. The organization tallied 15,000 people who volunteered to help clean up Great Lakes beaches during cleanup events. It also recorded 6,961 people calling for more protections against Asian carp, and that 11,533 people called on lawmakers to protect Lake Erie from algal blooms. The organization also had 4,811 people pledge to stand up for the Great Lakes.
