The Antique Boat Museum is seeking a Builder in Residence for the next cycle of its program, which invites a craftsperson each year to work within the Museum Boatyard to both create a body of work during their residency and contribute to the community at ABM.
The program attracts both emerging and established artisans looking for an opportunity for extensive creation and study, while enhancing the educational experience of the builder along with visitors and staff.
The Antique Boat Museum’s mission is to collect, preserve, interpret and celebrate boats and related artifacts to advance public understanding of the importance of boating to the cultural history of North America and the St. Lawrence River in particular.
Benefits of the residency include a generous stipend and housing, 24-hour access to the E.J. Noble Historic Stone Building, located at the heart of the waterfront campus (with exception of wedding rentals), and traditional woodworking tools and dedicated bench space.
Selection criteria will include quality of current portfolio, potential for artistic and professional growth, technical skill, ABM mission alignment and the ability to communicate with the public in a museum environment.
The application period opens on February 1, 2024, and the deadline to apply is March 31. Applications will be reviewed by a rotating panel of ABM staff, board and qualified guests and all applicants will be notified of acceptance status by April 19.
Email completed package to mgorman@abm.org by close of business of deadline. For more information on the benefits and expectations, visit abm.org.
