Baysail Seeking Deckhands

By March 13, 2018No Comments

Baysail, based in Bay City, Michigan, is seeking adventurous, friendly deckhands to support voyages on the tall ship schooners Appledore IV and Appledore V. Deckhands will be expected to work on shipboard education programs, public sails and private charters on the Saginaw River, Saginaw Bay and other Great Lakes ports.

Deckhands do not need a sailing background, although it is preferred. All accepted deckhands will undergo an extensive training that covers the basics of vessel mechanics, rigging and marlinspike seamanship. Baysail says potential deckhands must also be physically fit, willing to learn and at least 16 years old. Baysail also prefers candidates with experience working with youth or with a knowledge of the Great Lakes ecosystem; however, all are welcome to apply.

Deckhand positions are full-time, seasonal with flexible options. Preference will be given to candidates who can begin ASAP.

Baysail offers educational programs for all ages. Its Windward Bound sailing training voyages for teens are a popular draw. The program is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
