The iconic Big Sable Point Lighthouse at Ludington State Park reopened to the public on June 25, 2025, ahead of schedule following a $2.6 million construction project that included repaving, reconfigured parking lots and new pedestrian pathways, reports MLive.com. The lighthouse has been closed since after Labor Day for the updates and repairs. Visitors to the park and lighthouse can enjoy updated facilities, a gift shop, interpretive signage, picnic tables and a sandy beach, in addition to exploring the 1867 lighthouse and climbing the steps for an impressive view.
Summer hours for the Big Sable Point Lighthouse extend through September 7, and are 11am – 4pm Mondays and 10am – 5pm Tuesdays through Sundays, with hours changing to 10am-5pm Thursday through Sunday only September 11 through October 26, 2025.
Lakeshore Keepers will provide bus days to help increase traffic to the lighthouse, with rides available one-way or round-trip from noon to 4:30pm on July 12 and 24, and August 2, 14 and 30. A recreation Passport is needed to enter the park, and there is a separate charge to climb the light.
