BRP has recently announced that Evinrude outboard engines will be retired while the company focuses on new projects and its current boat brands. The Evinrude brand was first started 113 years ago, according to Trade Only Today.

“Our outboard engines business has been greatly impacted by COVID-19, obliging us to discontinue production of our outboard motors immediately,” said BRP president and CEO José Boisjoli in a press release. “This business segment had already been facing some challenges and the impact from the current context has forced our hand.”

The outboard engines were being produced at a facility in Sturtevant, Wisconsin, meaning there will be 387 positions terminated. Alumacraft, Manitou and Telwater products will now be the focus of the Sturtevant facility as well as the St. Peter, Minnesota. The company also announced that the Arkadelphia, Arkansas facility will be closed.

In addition, the company announced that a partnership with Mercury Marine means current brands will feature their engines.
