Chicago is quickly becoming a top U.S. destination for racing events in the boating world. The most recent addition to the roster is P1 AquaX’s Pro Series, which will take place September 9 to 10 at Chicago’s 31st Street Harbor.
“Our exhilarating international jet ski racing series crowns the fastest talent in the world and we are thrilled to bring this competition to Chicago,” said P1 AquaX Managing Director, Azam Rangoonwala, in a press release. “There’s no better waterfront to showcase our sport, and there’s no better sports town than the Windy City.”
P1 AquaX is the fastest-growing personal watercraft championship in the world. Racing will begin each day at 11 a.m. and run until about 3 p.m., depending on weather. Each race lasts for 30 minutes, which averages out to approximately 17 to 20 laps, or 23 to 28 nautical miles. Races are expected to reach up to 80 miles per hour. There will be three professional and three amateur races. Anyone with a jet ski can register to compete in an amateur race, as long as they complete and pass P1 AquaX safety training before the competition on September 9.
Competitors will be vying for points before the AquaX World Championships, which will be held in Key West in December.
