By October 11, 2016No Comments

The 36th Annual Salute to the U.S. Coast Guard was held in New York City on October 6, 2016. The event, which was attended by more than 600 people, raised $1.2 million to support Coast Guard Foundation programs, such as scholarships, the Fallen Heroes program and relief to Coast Guard members impacted by natural disasters.

The Coast Guard Foundation is a non-profit for the education and welfare of Coast Guard members and their families. During the October 6 event, the Coast Guard Foundation also presented the National Award for Heroism. The award went to the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Bertholf for its work thwarting 19 drug-smuggling vessels in the eastern Pacific. The event also recognized Morton S. Bouchard III, president and CEO of Bouchard Transportation, for his company’s support of the Coast Guard Foundation during the last 30 years. The Coast Guard Foundation’s president, Anne Brengle, is retiring at the end of this year after nine years as president, and was also recognized.
