DCMM Honors Veterans on Memorial Day

By May 29, 2014No Comments

Memorial Day is more about enjoying the summer warmth, being out on the water and spending time with the family. Memorial Day should be spent honoring and remembering those who fought for our country and lost their lives for our freedom.

And that’s exactly what the Door County Maritime Museum did this Memorial Day. Displaying the Crossed Oars and Empty Lifejacket tribute at the museum’s front entrance, the museum invited the community to come out Monday, May 26 and add flowers and other tributes to the base of the display.

The museum’s Crossed Oars and Empty Lifejacket memorial honors all veterans, especially those lost at sea. The memorial pays special tribute to four Door County Coast Guardsmen who perished with the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba when the ship was sunk by enemy fire during WWII.
