Detroit is preparing for an estimated 4 million visitors this month for the 2016 Detroit Boat Show. The show, which runs from February 13 to 21 at the Cobo Center, will feature 29 new 2016 boat model premieres, in addition to the hundreds of boats on display and for sale. Boat show organizers claim the show has grown exponentially over the past five years, with potential this year to be the biggest yet.
In addition to the usual boating accessories and gear, the Detroit Boat Show will also have a free boater safety course, a seminar series, a kid’s zone, various contests, a Star Wars starship fighter replica, a “live” mermaid and a fully-stocked tiki bar. For those seeking a bit of a thrill, be sure to check out the Swampmaster alligator show on February 13 and 14, in which an expert handler will catch an 8-foot, 200-pound alligator with his bare hands.
On February 16, dealers will donate $100 per boat sold to the Autism Society of Michigan for Autism Awareness Day. The following day, boaters can bring in food items for the Gleaners Food Bank; those who donate five or more items will receive free show admission.
Tickets go for $12, with children 12 and under free.
