Door County Classic & Wooden Boat Festival Call for Entries

By July 12, 2016No Comments

The Door County Classic & Wooden Boat Festival is being held in conjunction with the Maritime on Madison festival this August. Event organizers are calling for three types of entries into the Classic & Wooden Boat Festival: Boats to be exhibited; teams to compete in the Sikaflex Challenge boat building competition; and artwork for the new Art Mart Sale. The festival takes place during the evening of Friday, August 12 and on August 13 throughout the day.

Boaters who wish to register to show their boat can choose between either trailered, in-water, or grass display options. Each vessel will be eligible to compete for the People’s Choice honors. Boat registration will be taken until 9 a.m. that Saturday morning. To register a boat, visit the museum in Sturgeon Bay or go to dcmm.org/event.

Those interested in entering the Sikaflex Challenge should sign up quick: Space is limited to 12 two-person teams. Participants will have Friday evening to construct their boats using a specified amount of wood, as well as provided tools and Sikaflex marine sealant. Racing will take place on Saturday. Teams may register for $20 at the museum or its website (dcmm.org/event).

The new Art Mart event is replacing the “Paint the Bay” event. Local artists may put their work up for sale with a portion of the proceeds going to the Door County Maritime Museum. Those interested in showing their artwork should call Jerry Richter at (920)-746-0516.
