One of Erie’s historic gems on the shores of Lake Erie will once again be open to the public after being closed for years, thanks to a lease taken out by the Presque Isle Lighthouse staff. Under the two-year lease from the Port Authority, which owns the land, the Presque Isle team plans to open the historic lighthouse to the public as a museum, offering tours, and maybe even a gift shop and educational programs down the road.

“We have got a rich history tied into the navigation of this lake that is right at our footsteps, but I think that the more people understand that and get a better historical perspective on the city, it’s good for everyone,” says Eric Dahlstrand, reports YourErie.com.

In addition to offering beautiful views and a picturesque setting, opening the lighthouse as a museum would bring new life to this landmark that once shepherded ships into the bay, and offer visitors a chance to explore some of Erie’s very own history.
